2nd Fragile Dream: What are We?

Jul 20, 2011 11:24

A YamaJima fic to celebrate keannegirl01 's birthday! Sorry if it's late and I hope you like it :). Hope you had a wonderful birthday :)!

It seems that a certain Yamada Ryosuke has been thinking more than usual for the past few weeks. All the other people around him notice it, that once in a while, he would stop what he's currently doing and stare off into space. Moments later, he'll knot his eyebrows and shrug it off and continue what he was doing. It was a strange habit he had, and the other members were dying to know what's bothering him but they thought it was best to wait until he decides to tell them about it on his own. After all, he isn't the type of person who'd immediately ask for help.

What they didn't know was that he was just confused about his best friend. He wanted to stop questioning their friendship but he just couldn't help it. Sometimes, his mind would drift off into space and before he knew it, he would be asking questions about his relationship with him.

Are we brothers?

--"Ne, Yuto, wake up already. It's almost noon. When do you plan on waking up? Come on, you don't want to embarrass yourself when your friend wakes up before you and sees you while you sleep, do you?" Mrs. Nakajima tried her best to wake her son up. But being the boy, err, young man who is still not good with mornings, "Hm, five more minutes.." he replied with a groggy voice. His mother could only sigh at his son's laziness. He looked at the other boy laying next to him, also asleep.
"Ne Ryosuke-kun, can you help me wake your friend up? He won't listen to me again." Mrs. Nakajima added with a pout but realized that he won't be able to see it anyway since he was still asleep. Ryosuke began rubbing his eyes and stretched. Mrs. Nakajima brightened up and had a huge smile on her face. Ryosuke opened his eyes and a knot immediately formed on his forehead because the light of the sun was too bright. He took a glance at Yuto's sleeping face..
"Don't worry, auntie. I'll wake him up…" Ryosuke replied with a groggy voice as well. Mrs. Nakajima smiled and was about to say 'thank you' when he spoke again.
"…After five minutes." and he didn't say anything after that.
"Seriously, what have you boys been up to last night? Sigh. I'll just let you rest, then. But only up to 12:30, you got that?" Without expecting an answer, she walked out the door, leaving the two to continue sleeping.

Are we friends?

--"One strawberry and one mango, please." Yuto ordered. The man handed him the cups containing his orders. He handed the other cup to Ryosuke as he put the change in his back pocket.
"Ah, Yuto-kun, you gave me the wrong--" Ryosuke started to chuckle.
"Oh! Sorry, sorry. Here you go, strawberry."
"And here you go, mango." They exchanged cups and started eating them happily as they walked down the park.
"We surely eat ice cream together often, don't you think?" Yuto asked as he opened his mouth to eat another spoonful of the cold sweet.
"We do, now, don't we?" Ryosuke chuckled and did the same.
"It's like Yama-chan and I are ice cream buddies, right?" Ryosuke laughed at what he said.
"Ice cream buddies? Then, I guess we're buddies in a lot of ways. Don't forget, you're also my walking buddy since we always walk home together after school."
"Then that makes us train buddies as well, right?"
"Work buddies, too."
"Homework buddies."
"Lunch buddies"
"Classmate buddies." Yuto chuckled.
"What the--? Idiot!" Ryosuke playfully replied and laughed with him.
And their 'buddies' list went on.

Are we neighbors?

--DING DONG. The doorbell rang. Ryosuke opened the door and saw Yuto standing outside their gate. He looked curiously at the other and walk towards him.
"What brings you here so early in the morning?" Ryosuke studied the other's appearance, seeing the half-eaten sandwich in his hand and the fresh smell of coffee-- or was it himself that he smelled?
"I just went to give you your mail." Yuto beamed at him as the other raised a brow at him. He chuckled at his reaction and he began to explain.
"I know, it's weird, right? Maybe the mailman messed up the delivery and mixed your mail with ours. Anyway, I'll be finishing the manga I borrowed from you so I'll just drop by later. Is that okay?"
"Yea, sure. Thanks for bringing the mail, Yuto-kun. See you later." He smiled and watched the other turn his back and walk away. After passing three houses, Yuto opened the gate to his house. Ryosuke heard the loud screech and the lock being turned and with that, he sighed and went inside as well.

Are we classmates?

--"Yamada-kun, please stand up. Tell me, what is a cellulose?" the teacher asked him. It's not that he isn't interested in the subject, it just so happens that today was such a boring day for him. What's worse is he forgot that they have a review on Science today to prepare for the upcoming exams and he didn't review his notes. He was silent, thinking hard for an answer. Yuto was leaning back on his chair, with his book in his hands. Ryosuke saw him move a bit closer and noticed what page he was in.
"A-a cellulose is a… carbohydrate found in... cell… walls." he finally answered. The teacher told him to sit down and continued to call another student. Ryosuke leaned forward so that he could whisper a soft 'thank you' to Yuto's ear and the other boy just nodded without turning his head back.

Are we enemies?

--Ryosuke was already in a bad mood that time because something didn't go well during the photoshoot with NYC. As much as he wanted to go home, he still needed to practice for JUMP's upcoming shows and concerts. He and Chinen returned and went to JUMP's dressing room for practice. Ryosuke was fine at the beginning, except there was this one move he wasn't quite satisfied with. He wore a blank face during the whole practice and got easily irritated when he makes a small mistake. This caused him to lose focus and made a few more mistakes than usual. The music stopped once more and he scratched his head in annoyance.
"Hey Yamada, maybe you should cool your head off for a while. You can come back later when you're all relaxed and ready." Yabu told him.
"I'm fine. I just can't get this one move right…" he said, obviously pissed.
"Just go ahead and take a rest. We can handle things even if you leave us." Ryutaro said while sitting on the wooden floor, sweat rolling down his forehead.
"Shut up, alright? I'm not talking to you." Ryosuke looked directly at the youngest member with an angry face.
"You're one to speak high and mighty. Even if you kept on messing up at the same part every time." Ryutaro answered back and stood up.
"You should really do something about that attitude of yours and know where to position yourself." Ryosuke walked towards him, bumping his chest with the other's.
"Oh, I know my position, alright. But you don't. That's why we've been repeating that freaking song for almost ten times now." Before Ryosuke and Ryutaro could do anything, they felt themselves being pushed away from one another. Yuto stood between them with a serious face.
"This is enough. Yama-chan, just go and rest first."
"No. He was clearly at the wrong here! He should be the one you're getting mad at!"
"You're older! Besides, the two of you are both wrong. We're professionals so we should act like one, with or without a camera filming our every move!" The whole room remained silent that day, the only sounds heard were the songs and pointers that were usually coming from Yabu.

'But I doubt it's the last one because we're in good terms right now. Also, we're really close so that can't be it. For example, that time when I slept over at his house, when his mom left us to go back to sleep, he suddenly hugged me from behind and asked me not to protest because he felt comfortable with hugging me. And, now that I've thought about it, he has never let me pay whenever we eat ice cream together and would always walk me home. Well, that's expected since we're neighbors. Speaking of that, I just find it weird that our mails get mixed up often, sometimes even everyday! And then he would go to the house every morning… and when he leaves, he'll sometimes give me a sandwich or strawberries, or wink at me before he goes back. He even stays for breakfast sometimes. Then we'd go to school together. And he really helps me with our studies. Although sometimes I wonder why he's like that when he's the class leader and is supposed to be in charge of maintaining discipline inside the class. But he has helped me a lot and I think it's bad if I question his kindness. Also, when we get into fights, I've noticed that he'll be the one to talk to me first and cheer me up. He even helped me and Ryutaro work things out after that day at practice.' He sighed. He then realized that he had been thinking way longer than usual since almost all the members had gone home already. He shook his head to clear his thoughts and took his bag and left.

Yuto just shook his head at the older boy's actions. Really, drifting off into space for such a long time? 'What have you been doing lately, Yama-chan?' he chuckled as he sat on an empty seat.
"Well…" Yuto began to think as well. Talking to himself has become a habit and it really comes in handy when you have problems. At least, now he knows that he shouldn't be doing it when someone's around.

"…I think I know what's been bothering you… and it's been bothering me, too. Even if you plan on asking me about it, I wouldn't know what to answer as well. I guess… we better just leave things the way it is. I'm sure that we'll know it when we get there. But, for now, let's just stay like this. Together."
