The vets will sell powder and some weird goop that comes in a tube. The goop goes onto the cat and acts as poison for the fleas. Make sure the cats don't lick it off themselves- while not strictly poisonous, they'll act like they're drunk if they do (not as amusing as you may think). The powder goes onto anything that the cats sleep on or walk around- it's like Shake'n'Vac except with flea genocide.

After that, I recommend Frontline, which is a preventative measure which I give Cabaret on a monthly basis. He's not exactly delighted about it, but I think he realises that it's that or infestation.

yeah i've just read about the injections, I'm with the PDSA so hopefully I won't have to pay too much for it! ugh, it's horrible :( The only thing I'm taking solace in is that perhaps I'm getting bitten because they're not surviving on the cats as much as before, as I wasn't getting bitten AT ALL before. bleh!

We have a kitten who had fleas & he's been given a treatment from the vets that is brilliant - it squirts onto the back of his neck so he can't reach it and kills fleas off really quickly.

We were warned to not use flea collars as they can be toxic to some cats. Hope you get rid of them soon!

I second this. Frontline and Advantage are both excellent products, dealing with ticks as well as fleas. Use monthly.

You can buy FleaBombs from the vet on petstores - they'll kill anything in the room! I've never had to use them myself (thankfully!) but I know others who have and they've recommended them.

When I first moved into my flat the carpet in the spare room started hatching fleas and Freya got bitten - the previous owner's cat must have been lousy with them! *ick*

Good luck on getting rid! *hugs*
