ugh. saw a really nice flat earlier, but the owner wanted £1050 deposit instead of £575, because of the cats. despite having no carpets and only a sofa and a bed, which couldn't have gotten ruined, plus they go outside to pee and poo. even when they didn't go outside, and the carpets in my flat a few years ago got pee on them, it didn't even cost ( Read more... )

yeah, the girl who currently lives in the flat and who showed it to us said that too, and she had previously said she thought he was lovely. ah well. alba have now offered, of their own volition, to give us the deposit back at any point when we find a property now, whether it's with them or someone else. woop!

true, but there were no carpets to be ruined, or anything to be ruined really. it would have been a perfect place for cats, even destructive ones. i'm not too bothered now, i did say we'd quite happily sign a clause about any damage that may occur but he still wanted the full grand. he even suggested we could stagger the payments, pay half the first month and half the second... but that's like 2 months rent for each of the first two months and i don't know why he thought people would have the money for that when it's clear they're on a budget!

if it had been a flat with loads of plush furniture and carpets I *would* totally see the point of asking for that much.

Argh, I feel the same way. I'm dreading the day I have to find a flat that my dad doesn't own because he at least has a vague notion of how much the mean to me (no matter how destructive they are to doors/carpets/suede couches..... :( And it would obviously have to be a ground floor flat so that they could go out too.
