I know I promised to have a post on roleplaying games up yesterday, but that did not happen, for two reasons. Half my time was spent trying to find my copy of Baldur's Gate 2: Shadow of Amn, the other half was spent putting together the three computer chairs that my parents bought. At least I now have my games installed, and a good chair to sit in ( Read more... )

There's this huge selection of CRPGs I can't play because of the random encounters... Mainly the final fantasy genre. When I'm walking around and suddenly the screen goes "DOOM! Okay, now there is a battle" with no warning, it really freaks me out.

Especially in FFX with the breaking-screen animation, although I have other issues with FFX too, mainly the massive cutscene rampage in the beginning that I have now seen, I think, six times due to other people playing the game in my vicinity.

Need to get hands on a copy of Baldur's Gate and try it out, as I keep hearing about it.

I like random encounters, but I hear ya on FFX. I didn't like that one too much.

Yeah, Baldur's Gate 2 is great. Just remember that it is quite buggy. But I can point you in the right direction to get fixes.

I dont know why people hated FFX so much. I thought the story was absolutely beautiful and heart wrenching. My only problem was character development was extremely unbalanced. Your characters could eventually be gods and the fact that you could fight enemies that were stronger than the final boss for shits and giggles was a bit blah. Other than that, the lack of travelling on an overland map was sad too. But the rest of it was great.

I didn't hate it, I just didn't like it as much as other FFs I have played. But yes, the story was heart-wrenching. I think I would have liked it more if I had finished it.
