Wow, you write Donna's pain so well. This piece is beautifully raw, and honest for it. There are so many subtleties that really hit home, but this exchange is my favourite:
Somehow, he finds a smug smile and straightens to his full height. “You know how I am with names, Dana.”
“Funny,” she deadpans and wishes he chose any other name with which to taunt her.
Harry's carefully masked emotional turmoil is also lovely, making me ache for him and Donna both. I look forward to reading more.
I was afraid this exchange would sound redundant since some version of it has been used on the show, but it also felt so telling to me. It also serves as a sign of what's to come (a few chapters down the line) with Scottie sweeping in to save Harvey as in "War".
I think Harvey hurts a lot, but is just so good at hiding it, which makes him righteously accusing Donna of "rationalizing" so very ironic.
Thanks again for reading and reviewing! It makes me giddy!
Thank you! The fandom does need as much Darvey fic as it can get. There are a few writers out there and their stuff is made of awesome. Quality over quantity I guess. I'll take it. And I'm happy to fill in while I can!
Thanks for reading and reviewing! It makes my day! :)
I've had this in my bookmark folder for far too long and finally had a night to read it! We can always use more Donna/Harvey writers in this fandom (please please) and this was really fabulous.
I love fics that touch on "the other time", and it so feels like the right time for angst with these two, too. Can't wait to see where you go with it.
Also, you write lovely descriptions - "tailored to painful perfection", "punctuation marks in their story", and "he wants to get down to the business of stripping her of everything she owns" being particular favorites. :)
Thank you for reading! Really glad you enjoyed this.
I'm obsessed with trying to figure out "the other time". I replay that scene and try to read their expressions to find out how far exactly "the other time" went. It's a futile effort of course, so I end up writing angst-filled Donna/Harvey fic to fill the void. Cause that couldn't have ended well - whatever it was. It definitely irks me a lot more than the can opener.
As for the descriptions, I'm always a little concerned it's over-the-top, so I'm happy to hear you enjoy reading them. I tend to fawn over descriptions a lot and worry it's too much.
Thanks again for reading and taking the time to comment! I hope you continue to enjoy my take on their story! :)
“I think about it,” he states, and it’s nothing romantic like I think about it everyday. Nothing crushing like I think about it because it was a fucking mistake. Just I think about it. Here, Donna, another morsel to feed your soul with obsession
Was my favourite line. You really touch on Donna's composed obsession so well!
I'm glad you enjoyed reading this. Donna is a little obsessed with this / him / them, isn't she? I get that feeling, or I romanticize it. Either way it sneaks into my rendition of Harvey and Donna's past, present and future. She secretly beats this up to death in her brain (or it beats her up), and it hurts.
Thanks for reading! Hope you'll enjoy the rest of my take on their journey!
