The 2011 World Figure Skating Championships were held this past week. They were originally scheduled for Tokyo, Japan, late last month, but were postponed and then moved because of the devastating earthquake and tsunami.
I'm so pleased to present the two record setting programs skated by the newly crowned Men's World Champion, Patrick Chan from Canada!!!

The top three finishers in the ice dance are all North American and all come from the same training rink and coaches! This was the first world competition for the bronze medalists! It is unheard of to have first timers win a medal! A really stunning achievement by everyone involved!
See if you can choose the winner from these two performances:
The reigning World and Olympic champions from Canada, Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir skating to an "upbeat mix of rumba, jazz and Latin pop":

And American champions, and most current Olympic and World silver medalists, Meryl Davis and Charlie White:

The American team, Meryl Davis and Charlie White, is this year's world champions!! Personally, I love the sensuality of Tessa and Scott's performance more, and I was impressed by Scott's whole look - he really sold the Latin feel of their program. But Tessa and Scott were only performing their free dance for the first time this season. Tessa was off the ice for a few months after surgery. I so hope they will keep this free dance for next year.
Tomorrow the exhibition gala! No judges! Just great fun!
And that's my report of what I saw and liked at this year's World Figure Skating Championships!
