Parts of this I like. Parts of it, I do not.
It's another IHOP drabble.
Thoughtful
“You do love him.”
At the sound of Chloe’s voice, Waspinator looked up from his breakfast, wide violet eyes meeting the blond’s. He simply looked at the man for a moment, then snorted inelegantly, making a little buzzing sound.
“No…Already told you.” Another buzz, “And every one think Wazpinator iz stupid one…”
“I don’t know what you think love is…” Chloe had been watching them, all this time. He had noticed the way they were with each other; the way they bickered and hurt each other. The way they remained close and protective, in their own little ways. The way…It was something about the way they looked at each other when they were in their human bodies; the way they held hands without even thinking about it or sat side by side…“But this is it. This is love; all of this joy and sadness and anger and pain. Real love isn’t something pretty and easy and magical…It’s this; this struggle. It’s life.”
He paused, taking a careful bite of eggs benedict and looking at the small, innocent man across the table from him. “You would do anything for him, ja?”
Waspinator didn’t even need to consider the question. He simply nodded, a thoughtful look crossing his face.
Chloe wondered where he was.
The blond didn’t know it, but he was far away somewhere in his own mind, thinking -carefully, as he always did- about what Chloe had said.
Even now, in this body, he could feel the warm, familiar presence of Inferno somewhere in the back of his mind. The bond lingered, even with the change of bodies. They were still connected; still part of each other. He could feel the solemn, seriousness of Inferno’s prowling the mall, the thrill he got when he pursued any inane quarry, the gratification of setting something ablaze…
And he knew Inferno could feel him, too, and wondered what he felt like.
The bond hadn’t been forged out of love, but that didn’t matter. It was there, even with all of the hurtful words, the anger, the pain. He considered the things they did for each other, as well as the things the failed to do; the way they both did things without considering the other. Inferno hurt his feelings and left him angry more often than not, but…
Waspinator knew he would go to the Pit and back for him.
“Yezz.” He finally buzzed out, expression still one of the utmost thoughtfulness. He still wasn’t sure why…Inferno wasn’t the nicest companion he could have wound up with. The ant abused and berated him; made him feel small. He could never explain why, but…There was no arguing with what he felt. “I love him.”
Chloe grinned.
And somewhere in the mall, Inferno was suddenly struck by a wash of complicated, unfamiliar emotions.
