So we were playing Gloom with Uboat's mom and sister, trying to figure out who needs to be Menaced by Mice, Mauled by Manatees, Delighted by Ducklings, Startled by Snakes, or get some sort of Gorey-esque untimely death. That's a game that, thematically, I should love. The mechanic is very cool too. But I always find it an exercise in frustration. It's very hard to implement a strategy that involves multiple plays, because the other players will change something in the meantime that spoils your plan, probably totally unintentionally.

I think the Gloom experience depends a lot (moreso than many games) on the play style of the group you're with. Sometimes it's just a bad match.

(Similarly, oddities of game balance lead me to think that my circle is nowhere near cutthroat enough to play Munchkin properly -- but I'm not sure I'd enjoy it that way, either...)
