After finally sending my mom off on Tuesday (Monday's flight was cancelled due to ice storms in the midwest; thankfully BEFORE we left for the airport) I'm back to work.
Monday lunch with 'Bug in the southern peninsula; he's slowly moving up to Alameda, to the great joy of all us East Bayers. The rain spoiled Monday afternoon hiking plans, so we drove down south to avoid the rain and saw some nice scenery. Not the same, but better than being dumped on the entire time. My dear mother was quite impressed with dinner at
Pearl, and announced that we should take my dad to eat there. Well, if he ever comes to visit...
Tuesday I drove my mom to the airport: we left the house at 7:17am, we took the southern route due to multiple bridge accidents, and she got out at SFO at 8:14. I drove back north and around to Squid Labs, arriving at ~8:50. That's WAY too much driving for me, especially on top of several hours on Monday. I missed morning aikido, too, so felt rather sluglicious.
Wednesday was squid day; lots of fun with the little tentacled critters. More on that at a later date, as it's an ongoing project.
Aikido this morning; rolls felt really good. Today I've been processing pictures and getting some old Instructables ready to go. It's not terribly exciting, but needs to be done.
I learned (second-hand, thankfully) that expired domains with any traffic history now get put up for auction. It's apparently the new real estate. In this case, GoDaddy sold the domain name for $55 at auction (apparently the renewal email bounced or something brilliant) then the new owner sets up a series of ads, including one from GoDaddy offering to mediate any buy-back to the tune of $50 + 10% of repurchase price. They've got a slimy but lucrative business model, no? Thus reminded, I renewed my domain names and was reminded how annoying it is to have to pay extra for keeping your personal information private. This system sucks.
Quinzee wanted company dancing tonight (it's the 5th anniversary of
Meat) but I don't think we're going. I've had a very light cold, but enough that going out dancing sounds like a good way to get properly sick. Maybe we'll make
Substance on Saturday; they're having their 1st anniversary party.
