Happy New Year! We've had tons of people in town for Bug & Janie's wedding.
Perlick came in late on Sunday the 23rd, just in time for the most relaxed Christmas ever. We all sat around with our computers all day, decorated the tree, ate catfish and chex mix, and watched Buffy in the evening. Good times. ;)
Jessie, Tstop, Violet, and Indy arrived late Christmas night (actually ~1am on Boxing Day), and livened things up. Violet is wonderful and charming when awake, eats fantastically, and is interested in everything. She's a bit of a flakey sleeper, but once we added earplugs to our pajama kit all was perfectly silent. (Except for Jessie and Tstop, who get to sit up with her when she's unable to sleep and fed up with the whole thing. They seem to have replaced their blood entirely with coffee, and are surprisingly highly functional given the circumstances.)
Saturday was dim sum at Legendary Palace in Oakland. I made reservations for 12 people based on Perlick's headcount; of course we ended up with 19. They moved us to a bigger table (16!) with an adjacent satellite table, everything was properly greasy and good, and the total with tax&tip came out to $222! (OK, so Jofish had to add $1 to get us there, but we still left $222 on the table. Perfect.)
Beemer showed up just in time, so we nabbed him and migrated back to Tortuga for socialization and wedding prep. Nikho & Julie and their two sons followed, where Brian (age 8?) played chess with Perlick, who was lucky to escape with a draw. (Same result with Tstop the next day. The kid is good.) Wes, Danielle, Jofish, and Batman rounded out the crowd.
The wedding was Big Fun- assorted geekery, including LED rose corsages/bouquets, those little magnetic geodesic building toys, Stanislaw Lem poetry, dancing, and some fantastic tiramisu. The bottom fell out of the toy box as Perlick schlepped it to the car, so we all got to scamper about retrieving ballbearings before disaster struck.
Even more people for brunch the next day. I got smart and stopped cooking relatively early this time, so got to sit about and talk to people. The shrimp grits turned out well, but I didn't get to the sausage gravy & biscuits, alas. We went for a hike after in Joaquin Miller park, which was a nice attempt at balance.
There's more, but I'm tired of typing.
