I just saw "United 93." I was very interested in seeing this movie because I heard it was good and the coming attractions looked very good. I also heard that the director was adament about respecting the families. So I was curious. I've heard about that movie, but haven't seen it. I can't imagine it being anything other than depressing and, frankly, I don't go to movies to be depressed. This is why I generally like romantic comedies and musicals, I guess. The whole concept of this movie also seemed vaguely...exploitative to me, although I suppose the families of the people lost on the flight were OK with it being made. Or at least I hope they were ( ... )

It does seem exploitative to me too. I see your point on the identifying with the characters makes it a tad fictional, but I think it would have made the story all the more powerful. The director could have asked the families what their loved ones might have been doing before the flight or soemthing.

I really hope it's not because I'm sure there are other directors that do what James did to "Titanic." Not to exploit it but to make the story what it was, a tragedy.

It very much does seem more like a TV-movie. Like I said, a news documentary. Especially with the white faces, jogging camera, and hard to hear dialogue.
