FUUUCK i responded to this with a big long post nad it didnt work WTF now i have to think of it and type it out again!
I never said republicans would vote for nader to hurt kerry and i never said diehard democrats would vote for rader either. The ppl that voted for nader are ppl that if they HAD to choose would be more on the democratic side than republican and if there was no nader i still think they would vote becuase if they are enthousiastic enough about voting to vote for someone that has absolutely NO chance like nader, u must be someone that values you're vote which is why in no way would u not vote on election day. So those that voted for nader if they had to chose kerry or bush would have chosen kerry. And for that reason, a vote for nader is a vote for bush.
and i dont care what Nader is i still strongly dislike him for being an asshole and fucking up the election.

i think that you are missing the point. there can be no hypothetical situation here. these people would never have been forced to vote kerry or bush, and if it was just kerry and bush then those people probably would not have voted at all...so the one percent is irrelevent. and yes, it is true that nader had virtually no chance of winning the election, but i dont think thats the point to those who voted nader. i think that they are trying to say that there is something seriously wrong with a two party electoral system and nader knows this and therefore they want to make the statement that we have a truly (parden my use of this word now, i hate it) retarded system of governement and it is not the right way to go. therefore those who voted for nader were standing by his reasoning. once people saw that there was a candidate that said exactly what they were thinking about our stupid government where we the people are either with it or against it and decided that the nation should know that there should be a change. and fast. so basically

okay, i know now. after talking to my brother about this, i know what to say. we have to look at how the electoral system in this country works. basically, every state gets a certain number of electoral votes in the electoral college. the number of electoral votes a state gets is proportional to how big its population is. in every state, it's "winner take all" ... meaning, if kerry got 52% of the popular vote in any given state ... like Ohio ... he would get ALL the electoral votes for that state. and obviously 270 electoral votes are needed to win the presidency.

Now, you say that nader was responsible for costing kerry the election. nader did not get more than 2% of the popular vote in ANY state ... therefore, he did not get any electoral votes. not a single one. if he had gotten even one electoral vote, your claim would have some truth to it. But he didn't. i guess that makes more sense than before......
