Saved - Chapter 1

Title: Saved

Notes: I love a good cult so of course I am intrigued by everything that has been going down in Texas over the last  couple of weeks with the FLDS. Personally, I have nothing against polygamy and everything against child abuse, yet I am the first to admit that my knowledge about what is actually occuring at these compounds is severely ( Read more... )

I love you.

I was wanting to write a fic about this very same topic but since I can't write for shit anymore I am SO DAMN GRATEFUL that you are.

This is wonderful. Thank you thank you thank you for posting this. I'm ridiculously excited to see what happens next.

Damn. One of my fave authors does it again. Thank you.

:) I am such a premature poster. I have a bunch of ideas for what awaits them down the road but it might take me a little while to get them written down. I'm glad that you are with me on the subject matter, I find the whole thing fascinating; particularly these 'lost boys' who are cast out. I'm sorry that you haven't felt like writing, I'm always excited to see an update from you. Thanks for the comment.

This is a very interesting start to your story. I'm not up on all the cult stuff, but i've heard some talk about it and i know it's scary what's going on. Looking forward to more. :)

This FLDS story is all over the news at the States, right? Can't say I know much about what's going on myself but your story really grabbed my attention (even though I posted a Sonny/Heath pic yesterday trying to lure you into writing about Sonny again LOL).

One question though from the ignorant European -- why did Caiden have to leave?

I tried to write Sonny yesterday, so your plan worked, but he's not talking. :(

The deal with the FLDS is that they are polygamists and from what I've read a man needs to have at least three wives in order to get into heaven (basically). Since the birth rate between males and females is about 50/50 this leaves a significant shortage of women. As a result, many young men are cast out of these compounds once they become teenagers to decrease competition for the older, more powerful, males in the church. The media calls these young men 'lost boys' and they have reportedly been dropped off on the roadside and told never to return. They have no resources and a very limited education. Most of them have carpentry skills that they have developed on the compound, but many of them end up getting in way over their heads with drugs and alcohol. Thanks for reading and commenting. I hope Sonny talks soon. :)

oh yea i heard/read about that abuse scandal and the custody case(s).about over 400 kids right?
polygamy - well i wouldn't be opposed to it if the parties involved are consenting adults who are not restricted in any form, who choose to live that way.if so who am i to say something.but mostly this isn't the case.so you could say i'm opposed to it by default.

so they just run off these boys who have never been outside the compound grounds, don't have much education without money?or food?that's so cruel.won't the state help those kids?

thanks

I guess what I meant by not opposing polygamy is that I don't oppose the concept of it. Clearly there is a lot going on in these compounds that is questionable at best. I'm figuring that the boys who are run off have very little trust in the outside world so they are not going to seek help from public service agencies. Thanks for reading. :)
