Most of you are not facebook friends with me...my house was broken into tonight. They possibly have our important information (SSNs, birth dates). Not sure how to handle that...hoping that they wipe the hard drive before they decide to sell it or use it ( Read more... )

Wow, that truly sucks. I don't understand how people can do stuff like this to other people.
*hugs*

I don't either...Some people just don't understand how to live with others.

Hopefully most of the stuff is covered by insurance? I know some things just can't be replaced and that is little consolation.

Do you live in a really dark area? You are going to need to make sure that entry is more secure.

We have insurance, have to see what they will cover.

We have a street light right next to our house, but they did it in the middle of the afternoon. We have a mudroom attached to our house, so they were able to take their time in there basically.

Now, we have a fiberglass door with a very good lock on it and plans to make the house more secure, which will also make it warmer because the old doors aren't as efficient.

What doesn't get covered by the insurance can possibly be taken off of our taxes. Little consolation, but its something.

I am so very sorry. This happened to us a few years ago. I am just glad you're unhurt. :(

It seems everyone has a story like this :(

Thanks...I have to look at the good side of things and concentrate on the fact that the house didn't burn down and we were able to get the door fixed quickly.

There seems to be a rash of break ins this year that have happened to my friends. I never felt the same about the house we lived in that got broken into. They took jewelry that my grandma and my aunts had given me. They're deceased so it hurt even more.
