So, I a finding myself having now to make a very difficult decision. Both Psyche and Cujo are very likely seeing their last season with us. Cujo is seven or eight (I believe eight this year, but I'd have to check); Psyche is about seven. Both have begun having daily litter box use issues. Cujo has taken to attacking R when I'm not around (

Yep, that's why I've decided not to adopt any more pets -- not for a very long time. You get attached to them, then they get old and sick on you, and that's just way too painful.
