I'll Be Back
The imaginary weight compressing on his heart became heavier as time passed. He looked around the rooms he loved so much, slowly taking in every single detail and getting them etched in his heart. At least he would be able to remember the condition of the dorm that had been his home for so many years while he was away. It would be quite some time before he would return to the warm confines of these rooms once again.
Uncountable amounts of laughter shared, arguments unfolded, tears shed, and comfort found within these walls. This had been their haven. It was, is, and will be the same place he’ll always cherish, no matter how much time flows by unnoticeably. All that he could hope right now was that the two years would float by soon, so that he could be reunited with the brothers that he loved so much.
The people who hardly knew him always think that he’s a fierce and unapproachable person, but none of that was true. In truth, he was a soft person deep inside, who really cares about the people that are most important to him. Maybe he was a little on the loud side, and seemed as though he loves to bully his younger brothers, but that’s just how he was.
He knew that he had caused a lot of pain to the people who believed in him and cared for him a lot when he did things that shouldn’t have been done in the first place, most noticeably his leader hyung, who shouldered all the responsibility for not keeping a close eye on him. There were many times that he had protested against his hyung’s decision, because it was his fault in the first place, but the stubborn leader never listened, citing “I’m Super Junior’s leader, so I must take responsibility for all my dongseng’s actions all the time”.
Aish, that silly angel. He could’ve at least let me share the burden with him.
But he hoped that everyone - his group members, fans, and general public alike - would forgive him for his past sins. He had reflected upon his actions, and knew it was wrong. Hence the reason why he had sent a message on the fancafés, informing them about his decision that was made through lots of thinking and contemplation. He even apologized to the fans for not participating in the fourth album with his Super Junior brothers, but he thought that it was the best for everyone.
He took in a deep breath, as the memories he had shared with his group members played out like a movie in his head - it didn’t matter whether it was happy or sad; it’s something common to all of them, and will always the bond that holds them together through thick or thin. He was definitely going to miss bullying the younger brats and teasing his hyungs every chance he gets while he was away.
Reluctantly, he picked up his suitcase and headed towards the door. No matter how many times he had tried to reassure himself that this was what he had decided and had to stick through it like a man, he still couldn’t help but feel heavy-hearted at having to leave the world he loved so much for two years. He was pleasantly surprised when he found several pairs of feet standing in two lines at the door, and when he looked up, tears instantly filled his eyes.
Because the other fourteen Super Junior members were standing there, smiling radiantly at him. Okay, so maybe Leeteuk, Eunhyuk and Ryeowook were currently bawling their eyes out… but again, he hadn’t expected them to be at home. And to think that he specifically chose the time when he thought they’d all be out for their schedules. No one else needed to see him cry in silence as he reminiscenced the time he had spent in the dorms.
“Wh… what are you guys doing here?” he found himself asking, voice trembling in an attempt to choke back the tears.
“You idiot… do you think we’d be happy if we didn’t see you off…” Leeteuk managed between sobs, sending a hard cuff to the back of Kangin’s head.
“Hyung, you know you’re mine. You can’t get off that easily,” Kyuhyun grinned, earning laughs from the other boys.
“Kangin hyung, you’ll be back soon, right?” Sungmin stepped forward and gave him a hug.
Kangin merely nodded in response, as the first drop of tears started to form at the corner of his eyes. But soon enough, he started sobbing uncontrollably as well. “Aish, you people! And I thought I was able to walk out of here without crying! Look what you did to me!”
“We know you love us for that, Kangin,” Yesung smiled.
“Be safe, and make the country and us proud, you idiot raccoon,” Heechul chipped in.
“We’ll be waiting for you, Kangin hyung. Saranghae~” Donghae said, the tears also starting to flow down his cheeks.
Again, Kangin could only muster a firm nod, before a smile broke out on his face.
“I’ll be back.”
