Heechul groaned exhaustedly as he blindly slapped around his night stand in search of his ringing phone, prepared to snap at whoever was on the other side of the line. He knew very well that he hadn’t been asleep for too long - it was probably just after the break of dawn - and that throbbing headache that the soju had given him wasn’t making things any better, either. When Heechul finally found his phone - which was next to his pillow all this while - he was fully poised to spew a string of profanities, only to have his thoughts interrupted by a cheerful-sounding voice.
“Good morning Heechul hyung! Merry Christmas!” Ryeowook greeted.
“Couldn’t you have picked a better time to call, Ryeowookie?! It’s freaking eight in the morning! And for your information, I just went to bed at five in the morning after drinking with Ssamdi, Hongki and Jongwoon!” the older male exclaimed, getting more irritated than he had originally wanted to be. The pounding of his head was getting worse by the moment, and all Heechul wanted to do was to go back to bed and then nurse the hangover later on.
Nonetheless, Ryeowook didn’t quite catch on to the murderous tone that Heechul was currently employing, mostly as a result of the festive mood he was having. The younger male pressed on with his routine hyung-calling session on Christmas morning with Heechul. “Aww hyung, it’s Christmas. You should cheer up a little, and not be so uptight with things,” he chirruped.
“Try having a hangover on top of your lack of sleep, then you can come tell me to loosen up a little,” Heechul grumbled.
“Are you going anywhere today though, hyung?” Ryeowook asked again, eager to find out his plans.
“The only place I intend to be is in bed where I really belong for today. And if you don’t hang up soon, I swear I’m going to march downstairs right this instant and murder you before I go back to bed. Why are you calling me when you can come over anyway?” the older male threatened, but Ryeowook didn’t seem the least bit perturbed by it.
“Because you didn’t answer the door when I knocked on it earlier. Donghae hyung was the one who asked me to ring you up instead, because he said that you would pick up your phone no matter what,” he explained, and Heechul groaned out loud once again. He was so going to slaughter Donghae when he gets his hands on the boy later on.
“Seriously, Ryeowook, I know it’s your habit to call or meet up with everyone on Christmas to greet them, but when are you going to hang up? I really want to go back to bed. Please,” Heechul begged. He really didn’t have much energy to keep talking for long.
“So I guess you don’t want your Christmas present, huh hyung?” the eternal maknae asked, sounding a little hurt at Heechul’s remark. The latter’s heart immediately softened at the intonation that was employed by Ryeowook, and heaved a resigned sigh a second later.
“Just come on over to my room in a minute…” he said, grumbling something along the lines of him being too nice to his dongsengs sometimes before he hung up.
In the end, Ryeowook handed over a large present for Heechul in order to thank him for always taking care of him no matter what, and for being such a great hyung overall. The latter grudgingly pulled out a gift for the eternal maknae from his closet as well, and despite not being a Christian like the rest of the members, he decided to purchase a gift for each of them - mainly because he knew how the other members, especially the younger ones, loved receiving gifts on Christmas.
“Kids,” he huffed, but in spite of his bad mood in the morning, he smiled cheerfully. Ryeowook definitely had a way to spread the Christmas cheer around, all right.
