Kibum wearily stepped through the doors of the dorm - the home that he hadn't returned to in quite a long while due to the differences in his schedules with that of his fellow brothers. It was a day after the news of Hankyung filing a lawsuit shocked everyone to the core, and the residual effects of it still lingered in the dorm in the form of a depressing atmosphere. It was perfect evidence that the reality whereby one of their own had decided to leave the group still hadn't quite sunk in for the Super Junior boys yet.
As expected, there were no hug-attacks coming from his members when he entered the house - that much was given. In fact, it didn't seem as though there was anyone hanging around in the house, because the whole dorm felt oddly silent. Even though Kibum was one who preferred a quiet atmosphere, the absence of rowdiness in the dorms unsettled him, and he didn't like it one bit.
While peeking around the corner into the kitchen to check whether Ryeowook was going about preparing some food like he usually does, the voice of someone calling his name coming from behind effectively pulled Kibum's attention back to the hallway. The younger male sighed in relief when he found his leader hyung standing there, though the latter's eyes looked incredibly red and swollen.
"Teukkie hyung… have you been crying…?" Kibum asked warily, even though he knew the answer to it already. And as he had guessed Jungsoo would do, the older male denied it outright, flashing him a bright smile and cheerfully welcomed him home instead. Sighing, Kibum walked over to Jungsoo and pulled him over to the couch so that they could talk while being seated.
"So tell me, how have you been these days, Kibum?" Jungsoo started right off the bat once they were settled in on the couch, still plastering that wide grin of his on his face. But Kibum wasn't buying that. He - and the other Super Junior members, for that matter - knew very well that Jungsoo was just trying to keep up a tough appearance so that he wouldn't make them worried. Little did Jungsoo know that they would actually worry about him more, because he never seemed to divulge his true feelings unless he was pressed to do so.
Kibum sank deep into the couch and stared directly at the television set, but the words rolled slowly but surely off of his tongue. "Hyung, you know very well that there's no need to keep up the pretenses around us. I know you're hurting deep inside from everything that has happened for the past day, and I understand why you would feel that way… Can you please just open up to me?" he pleaded.
Next to him, Jungsoo let out an exhausted sigh, a sign that he had taken down all the walls that he had put up around him. "I'm not being a good leader for Super Junior, am I?" he asked softly, a mixture of sarcasm and frustration interlaced in his voice.
"Why do you say that, hyung?" Kibum enquired. While it wasn't the first time that Jungsoo had posed that question to the other members, he certainly had a different reason for thinking in that manner every time. Kibum felt compelled to find out this time, if the leader hadn't opened up to the rest of the boys yet. Judging by how the older male had just bawled his eyes out, and without the sign of Donghae around, it was evident that Jungsoo had been keeping everything to himself up till now.
"I didn't even know how much he was suffering," Jungsoo scoffed. "What kind of leader am I when I can't even keep my members in check?"
Kibum shook his head at the sentence. There he goes with putting all the blame on himself, he thought. "You're not in the wrong, hyung. None of us - not even Heechul hyung - knew about this, so don't bash yourself over the matter," he tried to reason with Jungsoo, but some part of his heart told him that it wouldn't work anyway. Still, he had to try.
"No, it is my fault, Kibum. First it was Youngwoon, and now it's Hankyung. If only I watched over them more, this wouldn't have happened," Jungsoo said again, voice trembling more and more with each passing syllable. Before the other male could work up a reply, Jungsoo added yet another alarming comment. "Maybe I should just leave the group and let someone else who's more capable of being the leader to take over…"
By this time, Kibum shot up in his seat and grabbed Jungsoo by the shoulder, effectively making the leader look at him directly. He noticed that there were silent tears rolling down the leader's cheeks, but decided to ignore it for the time being, since there were more pressing matters at hand. "Hyung, don't you ever think that you're not being an effective leader. You might not know this, but every single one of us believes that without you, there's no Super Junior. Don't you understand? You're the glue that brings us all together, and I believe that Hankyung hyung believes in this bond as well. He has his personal reasons for taking that sort of action, and it certainly does not have anything to do with you not being a good-enough leader for Super Junior."
"But-" Jungsoo started, but his thoughts were disrupted when Kibum's head suddenly hung low. The moisture that soaked through the material of Jungsoo's pants told him that the one person who hardly cries in front of others had just broken down in front of him, because of his words.
"Hyung, I just don't want to hear you saying things like you want to leave Super Junior ever so easily. I want you to stay forever, as Super Junior's eternal leader…" Kibum mumbled softly, still trying to keep his voice as even as possible. "Can you please just entertain this simple but selfish request of mine…?"
At this point, Jungsoo was already completely bought over by the younger male. Kibum, who usually doesn't speak much, actually gave him such a huge speech by comparison - and there was no reason to doubt the boy's sincerity. It was clear as daylight in his tone, and Jungsoo felt guilty for even voicing such thoughts in front of Kibum. In the end, none of them said anything more, and Jungsoo merely pulled Kibum into a hug, giving him a silent agreement for his request.
