You are used to the T. Boston is unusual, I believe unique among American cities in that its public transit system is not for the sole use of the indigent and mentally ill.

that was an intentional exaggeration, right?

My car will be here in two weeks (yay!) and I know Baker's looking at getting a Vespa. In the short term I'm going to poke around and try to find a bike, but I know that people here are Serious about bikes (probably more so than Boston) so I'm gonna try to go to like Sears or something. Woo. :)

Also: hi!

that sounds really disturbing. i'm not used to crazy people on PT (at least not violent crazy people), and it's been my primary means of transit my whole life, so i would have freaked too. i can't believe no one else on the bus said anything; was this within view of the bus driver at all? on a Metro bus, crazy lady would have been kicked off.

It was pretty disturbing. I was always under the impression that physical assault was something that, if it happened, everyone would recognize "all right, this person is not OK to have around" and they would have pulled over the bus and escorted her off. I know I've seen that exact thing happen when someone tries to commit fare fraud on CalTrain.

I'm not sure if it was in view of the driver (it was up front, on the driver's side of the bus) but the bus was stopped and he certainly must have heard her.

Outside that, though, I really like the bus system so far :)

I think you'll find that people are a bit less receptive to kindness from strangers out there. I don't know what it is about that place, but a lot of people seem to be suspicious of such things, or just plain oblivious.

It is very beautiful, though. I'll have to show you my favorite spot in the city the next time I'm out there.

gah, that was intense. i would say it was time to get a bike, because the hills.. the hills! but then, Middle Aged Chinese Woman would not have had her champion to carry the day. mrf. i guess that's life in a (real) big city :P

it's chinatown, ben.
