Nods... I actually read something somewhere the other day about that - that kids who actually socialise LESS with their peers (than the current average), and actually spend most of the first SIX YEARS of their lives with their smallest circle of adults (ie immediate family and close family friends) are more likely to be emotionally stable, have higher intellectual and analytical and problem solving skills, less likely to have mental health and self esteem issues and more likely to actually play well with their peers.
And that's very VERY interesting, but not surprising.
Right now as I watch Sam try out his little social skill muscles I really struggle. As an introvert he needs to do things so differently to me, and the world is very much set up for extroverts. I have to constantly remind myself to do it 'his way' when helping him to manage his emotions, to learn how to interact - or it won't stick/feel natural/work for him
