Ah, Kristen - we knew her well. Let us remember her not for her gruesome and honestly disturbingly unnatural death at the hands of 150 blood-drunk Anthropology students, but for how she lived; summed up best in her final words to the world at large,
"it's going to be awesome!"
Kristen McCarthy Whatever year she was born - About five minutes from now.
I would like to point out, in defense of my possible major, that one professor's interpretation of anthropology is not necessarily the real deal. Anthropology is a real discipline, but it's a soft science, which is where I can understand people being made upset by it.
I've had nothing but good experiences with the field, but it seems like a lot of people I know haven't. Forensic anthropology isn't only biology, but it's also how cultural practices apply to say, this skeleton or that mass grave, as well as how the law applies to those instances. Biology and other sciences certainly have a lot to do with forensic anthropology, but that's not the only thing that goes into that subsection.
It's also very frustrating that a lot of my friends really seem to dislike something I enjoy.
Really, I'm insulted. Anthropology is a very developed field with a great deal of method. We take from other sciences to provide evidence for the study of human development which I definitely feel deserves it's own field. To say that sociology encompasses that field is, to be blunt, deeply insulting. Sociology works in greater general trends rather than focusing on individual populations and cultures, if everything was melded into Soc, then we wouldn't have had the wonderful research done that allows us to understand small scale cultures. For a simple comparison, Soc is like studying Physics, whereas Anthro is like studying particle physics. Sociology deals with how things broadly work, whereas Anthro looks at the way much smaller things work
