And so ends my review of Bowie's Glam period!

David Bowie - Diamond Dogs TV Commercial

Now, halfway through the Diamond Dogs tour, Bowie restructured his backup band, dropping Mick Ronson and bringing in a bunch of R&B session players, which led to a new, funk-driven direction. This leg is referred to as The Soul/Philly Dogs Tour. To see the contrast, here's two videos of 1984. The first vid is with the band that started the tour, the second, the one that closed it:

The closers were much better, IMHO.

Did you recognize Luther Vandross singing backup in the last video? Here's a couple of more tunes - the first one is from an aborted attempt to stage an 1984 musical, it's an alternative version of Candidate. The second is a melody of old standards from Bowie's early days - Footstompin'/Wish I Could Shimmy Like My Sister Kate, which was recorded during the same show as the second 1984 video (The Dick Cavett Show). It eventually morphed into Bowie's biggest hit of all time, Fame.

Great pics. Have you read Angela Bowie's book? Also: Iggy looks like a dwarf, at least compared to Bowie. I'm omly five foot one? Is that true?
Also, that building there in the last shot - looks like Moscow to me.

Bowie's not 5' 1", but Iggy has a song by that name. I would fix the Berlin part, but after someone responds I'm not able to edit. It should read they're in Moscow on the way to Berlin.

it's good to know someone has an idea about what's going on.
