31. Blonde Faith by Walter Mosley. The last--purportedly, at least--of the Easy Rawlins novels. It certainly has the feel of a farewell; throughout, Easy is saying goodbye in ways large and small. There aren't any neat little bows here. Even the final page leaves questions, but one can read between the lines to see Mosley's conviction that he's done all he can with this character and his world. Around that conviction, though, he's built one of the best books of the series, showing a world that is light years different from that of Devil In a Blue Dress, but one in which Easy seems to have lost himself. A worthy ending to an exemplary series.
