Red Dragon by Thomas Harris. These days, I try to read books before seeing the movies based on them, as opposed to, I don't know, reading the novelizations after seeing the film. (I remember liking the William Kotzwinkle novelization of E.T. a lot better than the film, but then you guys don't want to hear me talk about how crappy E.T. is, do you?) (Also, I'll bet that none of you have ever read the book that Die Hard was based on. Yes, it was an adaptation. I don't particularly recommend the original novel, though.) Anyway, there are certain films that I've seen about a billion times about which I always think, I need to get around to reading that book. I haven't tackled The Godfather yet. I did try reading The Bourne Identity, but it was so awful that I couldn't finish it. I'm sure I've seen The Silence of the Lambs half a dozen times or more, but I'd never read any Thomas Harris, and this is the first book in the Hannibal Lecter story, so. And it's pretty good, overall; a decent procedural, suspenseful, and pretty well written. Granted, at least some of the page-turning aspect came from not wanting the horrific imagery of certain chapters to be the last thing I read before falling asleep, because jebus cripes there is some disturbing and violent stuff in here. Anyway, it's good enough that I'll definitely read The Silence of the Lambs at some point.
