Morrisville is interesting. Not as great as say, downtown Bratt, but still an interesting place to wander through. Today I went down what looked to be a bike path or something, which took me past a collapsed building of some kind and a dam across the river--I'm thinking hydro for the town's power supply--and eventually led, with no apparent reason ( Read more... )

Obviously you can do hydro with almost any height differential and quantity of water, but the cost benefit ratio favors very tall dams with oooodles of water flowing through. At some point routine maintennace uses more energy than a dam could produce. Many old dams in new england were, indeed, used for power, but not via electrical conversion. Mill power.

Ask around and I bet you get some history on the dam.

Well, according to the VYCC kid I stopped and asked yesterday, it's actually for flood control. Not as interesting to me, but still worth knowing.
