Project Love : Chapter 2
Title: Project Love

Summary: Mr. Brain and Mr. Popular thinks they have nothing in common. But a certain BIRD change all that!
A/N: For those who are curious, I got the inspiration to write this when I read a certain book but I won't be copying the whole thing so don't worry... I just borrow the project which the professor assigns to them coz I love what it symbolizes.

Chapter 2
Kazuya avoids looking at the direction of his partner by trying to focus his attention on what their teacher’s saying
‘Let the bell ring, let the bell ring… I wanna get out of here’
But his silent chant was interrupted when Kimura sensei stop discussing the lesson and looks at the wall clock hanging at the back of the room.
“Ok class we still have 20 more minutes left, so please proceed to your respective partners and discuss the project.”
‘Luck really hates me!’ Kazuya muttered as he drags himself to where his classmate is.
“Good day to you Kazu chan” Jin greeted as the smaller boy lazily sits in front of him.
‘Kazu chan?! Only my mother calls me Kazu chan.’ He silently whines as he greeted the other a half-hearted “Hello Jin kun”
“How’s your mom Kazu chan"
‘He knows my mom?’
“She’s doing well, thanks for asking.”
And before the other could speak once again Kazuya divert the topic right away.
“So what was assigned to us?” showing feign interest
Upon hearing this, Jin’s eyes immediately lights up “We picked a very interesting bird.”
“Interesting bird?” ‘What’s so interesting about birds, they’re all the same.’
“Yes. You’re familiar with blue birds right?”
“Blue bird?”
“Yes, that's right. Ne Kazu chan, do you know that blue bird symbolizes love, hope and happiness?”
‘Love, hope and happiness?’
He stares at Jin thinking if he's just being witty or completely serious, but by just looking at his beaming face, he settled on the last one. And this is not good at all.
“Love, hope and happiness? Don’t you think you’re too old to believe in stuff like that?”
Taken aback by his tone, Jin immediately shut his mouth as his cheeks flush a deep shade of red and the smile on his face completely vanished, leaving an uncomfortable silence between them.
The remaining 10 minutes seems like a year as they silently wait for their class to end. And upon hearing the first ring, they quickly stood up and rush towards the opposite direction without even saying goodbye.

“So how does it feel being partnered with a gadget freak?” Ryo questioned as they walk towards the cafeteria the next day.
“His name is Junnosuke you moron” Tatsuya retorted as he transfer his backpack on the other shoulder.
“Who cares what his name is. So how was it?”
“He’s nice actually, and I didn’t expect that he have sense of humor.”
Ignoring the last part of Tatsuya’s reply he turned to Yamapi and Kame “so how about the two of you? How’s your partners?” giving emphasis at the word partners.
“Oh… I’m not sure if I’ll survive having Nakamaru" Pi heaves a dramatic sigh. "But I think I won’t have any problem with the project coz he’s a Science whiz. So most probably he’ll do all the work while I enjoy my weekend at home and going out on a date.”
“Asshole” muttered Tatsuya
“And you?” 3 pair of eyes stares at Kazuya
“Same as always.”
“Define 'same as always'?” Tatsuya curiously asked
“Same old Jin.”
“Excuse me, but I think you’re the only one who knows the ‘same old Akanishi’. Coz as for me, I'm 100% clueless."
The youngest of them gave Ryo an aggravated look “What I mean to say is same old smart, bookworm, nerdy and class brain Jin. Are you happy now?”
“Yes. Although I feel sorry for you, stuck with the most boring person in the whole universe.” He added with a smirk.
Kazuya’s about to retorted when Pi tap his shoulder and point at someone approaching them.
“Hello Nishikido san, I would like to ask what time should we meet at the library?”
“Hello Mari chan!” Ryo grins as he gives Kazuya a subtle look as if teasing him. “For the project right? Is 4PM ok with you?”
“Sure, I’ll just meet you there at 4.”
Before leaving, she turns to Kazuya and Tatsuya and greeted them a good day, then glance at Pi before saying “See you around Yamashita kun.”
Ryo, Tatsuya and Kazuya looks at Yamapi then to the girl walking away from them.
“Eeehhhh!!!! That’s not fair! She only said ‘good day’ to us but she said ‘see you around’ to you…Are you hiding something from us Pi?” Protest Kazuya while glaring at his friend.
"Hiding?! What would I hide from you??? I didn’t even expect that she’ll talk to me”
"Are you sure?"
"Yes!"
"Really?"
And before the two of them can continue their argument Tatsuya step in between.
“OK STOP! Pi I didn't know that you're somehow talking to Hayakawa san but that's none of our business. And as for you Kame, why don't you just go after her instead of standing here picking a fight with Pi like an idiot.” Tatsuya cried as he tries to shove Kazuya at the direction where Mari went to.
Taking few tentantive steps, he glanced back at his friends as if confirming whether he'll go or not. And when he saw their grinning faces, he started to run after the girl.
“Hayakawa san” he breathlessly called when he was able to catch up with her coz luckily she stop and talk to one of her friends.
“Kamenashi san? What can I do for you?”
“Can I talk to you for a while?” then he looks at her companion “alone?”
Hesitantly, Mari excused herself to her friend and followed the boy in one of the benches.
“What is it Kamenashi san?” She repeated
The seriousness of her voice was the first thing Kazuya noticed and it made him even more nervous.
“Anou… Mari san, I would like to ask if it would be alright if I asked you on a date.”
“A date?”
“Yes, if it’s alright with you?”
“And why would you like to date me?” This time sharper tone reached Kazuya's ears..
Beads of sweat start to form as he thinks of a way to express his feelings without making a fool of himself.
‘Go direct to the point Kame’ he said to himself as he stares at her.
“Hm?”
“Mari san?”
“Yes?”
“It’s be~ ~ How should I put it… You see, I like you... I really like you... a lot. And I'll be the happiest man alive... if you’ll accept my invitation.”
Mari went silent for a long time as if thinking things over, while the boy sitting besides her starts to squirm as he waits for her answer.
Just when Kazuya thought the girl has no intention of answering, he heard her say.
“I’m sorry, but I’m not interested on going out with you.”
One simple sentence yet clearly hits Kazuya hard and the only articulate word he could reply was “Why?”
"Because you're simply not my type."
He's about to throw another question but the girl continue voicing out her thoughts.
“You're popular in this school, I know that for a fact but your kind doesn't interest me at all.”
Talk about bluntness, that’s one of the cruelest thing Kazuya ever heard coming from a girl, and worst the girl he likes most.
“So…So you mean to say… You like someone else?”
“Yes, but it doesn't matter coz he doesn’t feel the same.”
He can't believe that this girl turn him down and said that he's not her type only to find out that the boy she likes doesn't even like her back.
“He doesn't like you. I do. Why can’t you give me chance then? ”
“You'll never have a chance.”
“Tell me why!?”
“Because I hated you since the day he said he loves you.”
