Between Reality and Lies : Chapter 10
CHAPTER 10
“I still can’t believe you and Kazuya are brothers” burst Jin. He and Tatsuya are now sitting in a nearby café as if nothing happens earlier.
“Jin, if you don’t shut up this very moment, I’ll really beat you up this time! I swear!” threaten by his companion.
“But…” insist by the other which Ueda automatically cut “You’ve been repeating that for the nth time now. And it starts to piss me off!” This made Jin to shut up.
After Kame broke the fight between the two guys, he dragged himself back home, leaving a surprised Jin and an upset Ueda on their own.
They waited for him to change his mind and turn back but he continued walking without casting them a glance.
Ueda was the first one to regain his voice and asked Jin to come with him and as he put it “NOW WE REALLY NEED TO TALK.”
“Okay! I will not repeat it anymore but will you please explain to me how you ended up as brothers?”
“Alright, alright! Now listen and just shut up.” snap Ueda “and don’t make any comments until I’m done”
“Ok, I’ll listen carefully” promised Jin.
And so Ueda started recounting to Jin about his and Kazuya’s past
“Kazuya and I are half-brothers. We have different fathers as you can tell by our last name. I was 2 when my mother left my father coz he constantly beats her. But that’s just one of the reasons.
The other reason was that, she met someone else. A man few years younger than her but loves her so much though he knows she’s married with a 2 year old son. And if you guessed it right, he’s Kazuya’s father. And that time when we left, she’s already 1 month pregnant.
We go straight to his home after my mom packed few of our things and he accepted us with open arms. And though I’m not his real son, he treats me good as if I’m his eldest. And so after several months Kazuya was born.
When I reached adolescent years, father asked me if I want to change my name to Kamenashi as well. Because although I was legally adopted by him, my mother didn’t change my last name saying she wants me to decide on that when I’m old enough to decide for myself.
At first, I really want to… But after pondering for quite sometime, I decided to keep my father’s name. Although he’s a bastard he’s still my biological father right? So I told this to them and fortunately they understand and respect my decision.
I explained to father that it doesn’t mean because I kept my real father’s last name it means I love him less, I assure him that he’s the only one I truly consider as my father.
And I’m proud to say that we’re a big happy family. I have loving parents and a sweet and loving brother. And I love them so much.
But when you thought everything’s perfect, misfortune strikes. Mother and father died in a car accident when I was in high school and Kazu-chan was in Junior high.
Maybe we don’t have problem financially coz mother and father have enough savings for us to survive everyday and continue our studies until we reach college.
But emotionally we are empty. We missed them so much that during the first week since they died Kazu don’t want to go back to school and rather lock himself in our house.
But as a brother it’s my responsibility to look after him so I have to be strong for him. So I gave my word that I’ll stand as his brother, his friend and his guardian no matter what happens.
So I start looking for job after I finish high school, although we are not financially difficult because I don’t want our parent’s savings to reach zero. And I want Kazuya to have a better education; if I can, I want to send him in the best Universities.
But it didn’t happen; because after graduating from high school he chose to work as well. Saying he don’t want to be a burden to me. And after a huge fight, I finally gave in because I saw the determination in his eyes.
So we both work in Shibuya then we met Koki. And as they say, the rest is history” Ueda ended.
During his entire story, Jin was quiet as he promised and only nods his head when Ueda finished his story.
“So maybe now you understand why I reacted that way, when you try to accuse my brother of something he’s not capable of doing” Tatsuya stated
And again all Jin can do is nod his head and keep still… Now he felt awful because he jumped into conclusion.

“Kampai! To your new song and music video” cried Yuichi. The group is now sitting at a bar near TOUCH recording studio celebrating the duo’s new single PRECIOUS ONE
“I hope it will be as successful as the last song we released” Ueda replied.
“Think positive Tat-chan!” cheered Junno
Everyone’s chatting happily when suddenly Koki spoke “I wish Kame is here to celebrate with us”
Immediately silence engulfs the boys as if noticing for the first time that one of their friends is missing.
“Yes, I’m starting to miss that guy” Yuichi agreed. “How is he Tatsuya?”
“He’s just busy” assured Ueda
“Is he that busy? It’s been a long time since I last saw him” complained Junno. But Ueda didn’t further comment on this.
Since the incident involving Rosa, Jin and Tatsuya, Kazuya mysteriously became busy though he doesn’t have TV commitments or dramas to shoot.
And he also makes sure to give some excuse not to join the group when they go out for dinner or hangout. This includes the routine he had with Jin.
Though he still answer Jin’s call, he always gives reason about not being able to join him and after several attempts Jin stopped asking him because its so obvious that Kazuya was avoiding him.
Koki breaks the uncomfortable silence “If the new single will be a success, Kame will be so happy”
“Why?” finally Jin join the conversation
“Because he compose it” the man simply replied
“Ah I remember, Friday at my house okay!” Ueda remind the group.
“Do we need to bring anything?” confirm Yuichi to which Tatsuya respond with “no need. Your presence is what’s important.”
“Will Kazuya be there?” inquire once again by Jin.
“BAKA! Of course he’ll be there. He’s just 1 floor away from me” retorted Ueda
Although Junno and Yuichi knew about the real relationship between the two, they haven’t question Ueda about it, not even once. Saying, it’s Ueda’s call if he would ask if Jin told them the truth.
“So it’s settled then. Please be there around 7:00 PM alright?” confirmed Koki. And all of them answered a loud YES.

“Kazu-chan? Where are you?” Ueda called out as he enters his brother’s home. And after a while a faint “here” was heard coming from the young man’s bedroom.
Ueda knock once before opening the door and saw Kazuya on his bed staring up on the ceiling. And slowly makes his way towards the bed and sit.
“They miss you, you know that” it’s not a question but a statement. And this made Kame to look at Tatsuya “I see. I miss them too” he replied in a low voice.
“Then why are you avoiding them? More specifically, why are you avoiding Jin?”
“You know, what’s my answer Tat-chan…” was a cold reply
“I know… But he misses you… I’m sure of it” insist by the older man.
“Yeah and I miss him too but I can’t face him. Not now, coz I always remember what I saw that night.”
Ueda just stare at him trying to comprehend what he just said. And with a sigh he shake his brother’s shoulder and said “on Friday, the guys will be coming to my home. We will be having a party just like we’ve agreed the last time.”
And when he saw that Kazuya will make another excuse not to come he instantly added “I won’t buy any of your excuses Kamenashi Kazuya! You will go, whether you like it or not. Don’t be so immature.”
This made Kazuya glare at him and when he saw the serious glint in Tatsuya’s eyes he eventually agreed.
