Holy cow... Good luck! and your taking Chinese! I was thinking about doing it at Cornell (Mandarin to be exact) but... I have no background in it (speak mostly Canto, can't read or write) but I'm afraid of getting murdered.. How long have you been taking it?

I'm taking Mandarin at Berkeley. I am in LOOOOVE with it. I speak Cantonese and can read/write some. I've taken only 1 year of Mandarin so far but I have seen great improvement in my Chinese. Now, I'm really into listening to Chinese music =)

And I'm planning to study abroad in HK, Beijing or Shanghai my senior year.

Did you go into your course with any knowledge of Mandarin?

None at all!

Pinyin was really difficult for me...but I got the hang of it after a month or so. My pronunciation is definitely not perfect or even close, but at least people understand.
