Grad schools

Wedding is over. Despite some drama, everything came together and I had a great time partying it up at the reception.

But now it's back to reality, and now I have to focus on grad school apps. Some are due as early as December 1 so I really need to get cracking with these 3 letters or recommendation and nonsense. My definite choices are as follows:

Let's all go to UIUC!

But yeah, totally feel you on the app fees. I don't think I'm going to be able to apply to 3 schools other than FSU (FSU is free for me from what I can tell).

YES COME HERE!!! HAHA.

UIUC really has a great String program. I've played with some of the string players here and they are all fine. Iowa also has a good music program, as does North Texas. Call me if you want if you to talk about Alabama...who do you want to study with there?

Dan Sweaney teaches at UA, and from what I've heard, he's building up quite a viola studio. Do you know how the scholarship/chamber/orchestra situation is like at UIUC?

UA is academically extremely hard. The comps there are just atrocious, and for all areas from what I've heard. I've talked to people getting degrees from lots of different instruments and the academics are just brutal. Just keep that in mind- I don't know if you're looking for a balanced school that stresses both academics and performances or one that leads to one of those side. UIUC is very balanced- rigorous academics, but as you know, a high high level of performance ( ... )

It's weird to me that I'll be done with my Master's as most everyone else is just starting. I'm very jealous of people who are just starting out, honestly...

I'll second that grad school is totally worth it at least as far as enjoyable schoolwork goes. People who just want the degree to get a job obviously don't like it as much. I obviously can't say that I love every single minute of class time but I do generally love what I am doing.

We chatted a bit about it today. I think applying to as many schools as you can afford is a good idea but you have to worry about audition costs too so maybe you can figure out which third to do with JT/Lily/Anyone else you can get a hold of. Call me if you want to vent because I am going through shit right now and it sucks and I hate it and hopefully this time next year we are both loving graduate school.

Same goes for you, if you want to vent. I think I can afford a 4th school...of course planning the cost of plane tickets is a bit difficult...but if I have someone to stay with in the area (which is basically every school except UNT), then that helps.

Also, I love how the LJ picture of an anonymous comment is a person with a paper bag over its head.

stupid FB has me searching for "like" buttons on websites that don't have like buttons.... like livejournal.

This is so exciting AHHH but super stressful. I can't believe we're all getting graduate degrees.... Well, I can, but it still surprises me sometimes to think such a high percentage of my good friends will have at least master's degrees, if not PhDs - and good friends from high school and undergrad, not like, "wow it's so weird all my friends have graduate degrees! oh wait all my friends are from my graduate program???" lol. Anyway.... good luck!

I drank a lot of coffee and it's friday so I'm sorry this is not very well written, but I am just really excited for everything!!!
