It is a truly remarkable thing, to be hunted, to bear the invisible sights of the marksman's target. And how equally as fascinating that the elation occur in the reverse, holding a precisely crafted instrument, readying the aim or indeed merely using its presence to effect one's goals. When you're trained in the use of force, you get pretty used to using a gun. You tend to think of it as less "sport" and more "survival". There's no hunting or "prey" persay [unless you're him] but you get tunnel vision. It's much more visceral to use one to defend yourself then it is to kill something outright.

Guns however, should always be a last resort in defending yourself...unless you're having a really bad day. In which case, if the situation warrants it then feel free to assume liability. If you make a good case that the fucker who you were shooting at was making you feel "imminent bodily harm" you usually get off with a two week suspension and maybe have your pay docked for a month.

There is nothing quite like the weight of beautifully constructed hardware resting faithful in one's hand. It is a shame perhaps that I so often left that duty to my companion, for his skills are seldom matched.

Its a tool for survival. Nothing more, nothing less. There's no need to make it sound so poetic.

Poetry is not created, it is inspired. There are things that can merely be spoken of no other way.

I speak only what demands to be said. It is a shame when objects are denied adjectives that so suit them due to the reputation they otherwise have.

Believe it or not, I'm well acquainted with what you describe, Mr. Holmes.

Why should I not believe it? A man with passion for dangerous creatures I should think not in the least to shy away from potentially devastating weapons.
