Seriously, *if* this is a legit quote (which I am not too sure about, plus there's the lack of context issue), then I don't think that it is as omg awful as people are saying. With all of the creative media outlets available and how celebrities use it to "connect to their fans," they're going to see things like this; they don't exist in some weird celebrity vacuum. And it's not like she read a bunch of fic and then decided she and Joe were meant to be - she saw something that she hadn't before. That's pretty cute.

It IS pretty cute! I agree with your whole comment. First off, I HIGHLY doubt this is a real quote. But it didn't worry me that much because EVERYONE goes on youtube, it doesn't surprise me at all that she would know about those vids. We know that people tweeted Selena fanvids, I bet people tweet them to Demi too, or comment about them on her youtube channel. I don't know, it doesn't weird me out that they know about fanvids (although I seriously can't imagine that I would ever watch a fanvid about myself).

EXACTLY. Fanfic is a whole other ball of wax. Celebs all up on lj make me nervous, I do not like the idea of them reading fanfic at all. AND THAT'S NOT WHAT HAPPENED HERE. People need to chill.

Okay, you probably already found out about this, but just in case...

Demi was quoted as saying basically that fans deserve some of the credit for her and Joe getting together, because she thought that she was alone in having a crush but when she watched some of the Jemi fanvids it made her think that maybe there was something there on Joe's side too. And people were understandably squicked by the idea of her watching fanvids, but WHATEVER JOE AND DEMI ARE TOGETHER AND THAT IS ALL THAT MATTERS.

Also the quote is suspicious and might not be real.

Haha, so confusing. I might be a little less horrified at the idea of celebs finding fannish stuff if it gets them to do what we want. Yes, Stark, you can watch a Nate/Brad fanvid, but only if it means you hook up with Alexander Skarsgard afterwards. (Insert your own pairing here.)
