Driving Lessons (1/?)
Rating: PG
Summary: Alex teaches Ryland to drive. Near death by light pole ensues.
Alex still has no idea how he wound up in the passenger seat of his mother's car teaching Ryland to drive.
"Turn! Turn! TURN!"
He knows it has nothing to do with alcohol or illegal substances.
"BRAKE! BRAKE!"
It might have something to do with bribery.
"Ry, where do you THINK you're gong?"
Okay, maybe more than something. It's all really not that important now. What is important now is that Alex is holding on for dear life, and they aren't going more than five miles an hour. In a parking lot. To be quite honest, though, he's pretty sure Ryland is more scared than he is.
It may also, he admits, may not have been the best idea to conduct a driving lesson in the back parking lot of Piggly Wiggly, especially when the student in question isn't even supposed to be driving for another two months.
Still, the back is flat and seldom used (all the old people park in front) and it seems like as good a place as any to learn. Alex really needs to think things through. Ryland is his friend, but Alex is really beginning to worry because his finger nails (clipped below the skin) are beginning to cut into his palm.
They take a turn too tight, barely avoiding a light pole. Alex hears his mother's voice in his head lecturing him on patience.
"Okay, one more time around the lot, Ry."
Clearly, she's never taught anyone to drive.
