A few lines that made me gasp because they were that incredible:
She thinks about all the good ones who never stay for last call.
She thinks it should be somewhere in her memories. Maybe if it were, it would be important. It would be a comfort.
off-tempo, but somehow still in sync with each other.
despite her training on how to deal with happiness, she never blows it apart.
"Freckles"..."Sawyer"
And the afterlife:
This complies perfectly with my theory that the season 6 alt!verse was in fact created by Jack as a place he could reconnect with everyone. The others would have their own afterlifes, and I love the one you've made for Kate. Because in her ideal, in her limbo, like Jack could master the whole father thing, she could ask someone to stay. Because I'm sure you care about my theories and all. :)
Most importantly, this was so achingly them. And I adore your simple yet engaging writing style so much. Just...this whole thing is perfect. Exactly what I've been needing since the finale.

I have been clinging to this theory as well. It makes it much easier to swallow if the sideways verse was just meant to help Jack let go. I just feel like that whole ending totally shafted Kate's character.
