Every night, he has a routine.

He pulls a six pack from the fridge. The radio plays static as he sits propped up against the half wall between the kitchen and den. His lips never leave the bottle.

And he waits.

Waits until his eyes droop shut in drunken numbness and his senses (save one) dull.

It smells of iodine and aloe, which when at its strongest leads to a whisper.

“You have to go back.”

It comes with the breeze, ghosts across his lips, soft as a kiss.

The song changes - like clockwork. a love struck Romeo

He grins.
