OMG so sick :(

Got home last night... around 11 PM got these horrible stomach cramps all at once. They didn't let up all night, until maybe 12 hours later. I ended up vomiting a grand total of 16 times, plus SEVERE diarrhea all night long. I really felt like I lost 10 lbs of water weight in a go. By the morning I felt like shit but managed to keep down a few ( Read more... )

Glad you're able to keep something down now. Feel better! I'm probably headed to the doctor tomorrow as well. Something isn't quite right, though I am unsure of whether it's related to my transplant or ovarian cysts at this point.

Eek! That sounds awful. Makes my gastroenteritis seem so minor O.O Do you mind me asking what sort of transplant it was?

Gastro issues are occasionally part of a transplant recipient's existence. And I have to agree with you. They are horrible! I've been in the hospital quite a few times because of dehydration which tends to mess the transplanted organ up temporarily.

I don't mind at all. I had a kidney transplant 13 years ago. My mom was the donor, and other than a few scares, the kidney is still working fairly well. I've only experienced a case of acute full-blown rejection once due to other problems no one caught at their onset. My doctors at that time thought I would need another transplant in 2004, but obviously that didn't happen. :) I am very thankful for being sent to a new nephrologist shortly after who started taking me off of medication left and right. He agrees with my theory in that overmedicating a transplant patient with meds known to kill a kidney if used too often leads to early rejection.

Wow! That's crazy. But thank G-d you were able to get the transplant and it's still going strong. I'm not a big fan of medication so I'm pretty pleased that this bout of stomach issues was dealt with by riding it out, then consuming massive quantities of powerade. I don't feel great, but at least I know it's on the way out... It is crazy to think what complications there would be with a transplant like yours :O And you're so young, too!
