Weight Loss

I've been really enjoying these last 2 months in my crusade against fat... Connie and I have been hiking every weekend and walking every other evening. The main thing has been simply tracking calories on fitday.com.... this way I can know when I've had enough in a day... and also know when I need to get more protein in versus carbs. Yeah that was another thing I was gonna mention... the ideal weight range for someone of my height is 166 to 224... so I am now officially not overweight... although I still want to burn the waddle under my chin and love handles on the sides.

Way to go, what a fantastic success! I'm really so pleased for both of you that you've set your mind to it and made such progress; it must make it that much easier and more enjoyable to be doing it together. :)

Fitday really is a wonderful resource, it's made all the difference for me as well; just by keeping track of what I'm eating and keeping the calories below maintenance level, I've lost four pounds already this first week, and that's without much exercise. And considering I have every intention of stepping up my activity, that's particularly exciting progress!

You and Connie are truly an inspiration, and I aim to follow in your (considerably lighter) footsteps! :D

4 pounds is awesome for 1 week! The way I look at it, I'm not "on a diet", I've CHANGED my diet. This is the way I plan to eat from now on and I'm fine with that. The only real "sacrifices" have been eliminating beer and pizza binges... pizza is healthy I just know I cant control my portion sizes so I just pretty much avoid it. I still will have an occasional beer... a couple spoonfulls of icecream or whatever I want as long as I dont go more than 200 over my calorie goal for the day. Some things about my diet I guess that others might find "difficult or weird" would be only drinking water, soy milk, watered down orange juice or low sodium V8 on a daily basis. NEVER any soda, non-100% juices or coffees. Rarely, maybe once or twice a week, will I have a glass of wine, a beer or herbal tea. With foods the only things I guess I never eat are like twinkies, hoho's and sugar crap... also we cook our own food more and more... its difficult to eat out and find food not loaded with calories, carbs or salt. About every other week ( ... )

If you see me using the word 'diet' in my journal, I'm talking in terms of *my* diet, not *a* diet. Dieting doesn't work for any significant amount of weight for the simple reason that if you change your eating habits and then go back to eating the way you were when you gained or kept on the weight, you'll just gain it right back. Seems obvious, but it's amazing how long it's taken people to get that ( ... )
