In small response to the nuclear waste problem, I looked up some information on Wikipedia. It's a long Wiki page, but I copied and pasted a few sentences I felt were important

That space elevator is very interesting. I hadn't heard of it before, but it immediately made me think of Willy Wonka's Great Glass Elevator that could go not only up and down but from side to side! ...lol, but actually, he may have been writing about what you're talking about. I think nanotechnology is very interesting, and could lead to really extraordinary changes. But it's also dangerous. That whole particle accelerator machine they're almost finished with is very worrying to me. The idea that it's unlikely but may create a black hole that swallows the Earth is a bit of a gamble I'm not willing to wager. :P Do you read the Steampunk magazines? They had an awesome article on the multiple ways the apocalypse will occur and how to survive it. It seemed very informed.
Yeah, we're going to doom ourselves and the cockroaches will have an abundant playground afterwards =p Plastic's the same way. We keep producing it, and after it's deemed unusable it just sits around, unable to biodegrade (though there are kinds of plastics are are degradeable, but not in a high enough quantity). Then you have the huge country of China whose factories produce an extraordinary amount of air pollution that won't stop any time soon due to how much their economy relies on them. A friend of my family told me once that he went on a jog in Shanghai and when he got back and wiped off his face it was covered in grime. Yay! =D
In a lighter topic, dreams about rainbows and bunnies are good for the soul. Probably.
I agree about plastic! They have the ability to make that corn plastic, but humans have made it so complicated to get things done, it takes forever for change! It's so frustrating!
Yeah, the thing about China, is it's like.. Here's another quote: "With just over 1.3 billion people (1,321,851,888 as of mid-2007), China is the world's largest and most populous country.
As the world's population is approximately 6.6 billion, China represents a full 20% of the world's population so one in every five people on the planet is a resident of China" "
Not that having a big population is bad in of itself, it's just that they're growing so fast and don't have the resources needed to offset the damage. Not that the U.S. is any better, of course, but we definitely don't need another U.S.
Thanks! :) I am very admittedly one-sided with my posts- liberal/environmentalist but I figure if anyone disliked that, they wouldn't be here (and I wouldn't want them to be). I'm sorry I don't often check my friends list. I read your last two posts- how are you?? Also, are you and Ben planning on D*C again this year? I hope so!! :D
