sneaky, stealthy, foxy neckerchief-guru
radiotape asked me some things! if you'd like to be interviewed by me, leave a comment. :D
- pete's words or patrick's voice?
i wish i could say i liked pete's writing more, but to be honest, i am really not fond of how he phrases some things! i'm one of those people who sounds out the words in my head even when i am reading silently, and sometimes peter's phrasings are so embittered and hollywood-disillusioned, and it puts a hurt in my heart. i am more enamoured of his earnestness in everything that comes from him, written or said or done. i am endeared to how his heart seems to still want and love and need the same things and the same people so badly, year after year after year.
on the other hand, imagining patrick's voice singing anything has enriched my life by allowing me to appreciate everything from jangly hipsterism to country to even the poppiest, sugariest songs played on mtv or fm-radio. everything can be infinitely inproved by imagining a ultra special pstump cover of it!
for example: yeah yeah yeahs' "maps" (on an acoustic guitar in a quiet room, perhaps while sitting on a messy bed), rihanna's "unfaithful" (on an antique, slightly desafinado piano in an empty operahouse), or that 'puff the magic dragon' song (with chris and darren and greta hopping in for singalongs)! think about it :D :D :D
- you can play keys for any band. which band and why?
the answer to this all really depends on which band would give me the most cuddle time. i can be paid in cuddle time, for fuck's sake. my ideal job in the band would be human blanket. they could just drape me casually over their laps or cling to me guilelessly as they sleep through the night.
i would not like to be a keyboard player for: panic at the disco, only because it seems that their extra strings/keys playing boys don't get enough love. i would be amenable to being pianoplayer if more panicpiles are stipulated in my admittedly very simple and short contract.
- zombies are invading the earth. which 4 people do you choose for your ultimate zombie fighting team? you'll need a weapons whittler, bait, fearless psycholeader, and a getaway driver.
weapons whittler: WHITTLER? you mean, like, making weapons out of sticks? i will say gabe saporta. we are immigrants, therefore scrappy and resourceful! also: the power of his imagination shall turn ordinary sticks into death-dealing fearsome things which will make the undead dead again! he can enchant them with cobra power! he can probably make reed flutes which will return all zombies to the Big Sleep.
bait: i was going to be mean and say ashlee simpson! i hate her speaking voice, i always have. she could probably emit a high-pitched nasal whine to draw the undead into our sneaky traps! failing that, brent wilson, maybe? he's... meaty? and looks like he can't defend himself, which shall attract predatory green-faced undead cannibals needing a free meal, right?
but why waste a spot on my ultimate team for someone i dislike? patrick can be bait, but i will give him a special kevlar bunny suit impenetrable by zombie teeth! with protective bunny helmet so he will never be in danger! also, in every dangerous situation, many other people shall rush in to save patrick in the nick of time (peter, joe, the hush sound, cobra starship), because so many people love him! pstump shall be in no danger whatsoever.
getaway driver: frank! he is tiny and compact, in case we all need to cram ourselves into some kind of stolen hotwired tiny import car, like a minicooper. he will swear like a sailor at every high-octane getaway and make endearing faces! he looks hot in fingerless leather gloves which i shall provide him with as protective gear for his hands!
lastly, and most obviously, fearless psycholeader: i would follow you to the ends of the undead-infested earth, jesse lacey. you and your mystical furry hunting hat.
- 3 desert island books
OH GOSH I AM SO BAD AT THIS QUESTION. i'll say:
a. richard siken, "crush"
b. joan didion, "the year of magical thinking"
c. the entirety of the internet. in handy dandy encyclopedia-like volumes! :D :D \:D/
ok, if that's cheating: complete unabridged works of rainer maria rilke. SUPERFAVORITE.
- list all your WsIP ;)
OH GOSH TOO MANY. i am a geek and do not have cool witty secret filenames for things. these are pretty much titles with a suffix attached to the end.
a design for life.doc
all tomorrow's parties.doc
check yrself (before you wreck yrself).doc
eight and a half lives (plea from a cat named dylan).doc
fox leaps, fox sleeps.doc
good weather for airstrikes.doc
high hopes and atmospherics.doc
how the light gets in.doc
i am godzilla, you are japan.doc
no bailan nadie o bailan todos.doc
people in glass houses.doc
russian roulette so far from the soviet.doc
the sea means no harm (and neither does he).doc
the world forgetting, the world forgot.doc
what i'm interested to know is what kind of stories people think are attached to those titles. what do you think? looking at the list i can already tell how much of a superserious pretentious asshat i am!
p.s; heavy influence on my writing tone lately are my super duper 'desert island' bands: everything but the girl, rachels, maximo park. but also
interpol's new album! i would say i heart it massively, except their music does not match big floaty enthusiastic hearts. heavy, earnest, pleading hearts, perhaps! but their sound puts to music such a massive part of myself that i don't know how to verbalize. everything about me that is grave and self-defeating but fiery and fierce with love and loyalty.
actually, i am admittedly biased. i love these suit-wearing heavy-handed clods, even if carlos d. has this horrible fat caterpillar of a moustache and does not want to let it go. let it go, carlos. let it go.
also, they have a song called "there's no i in threesome", which you need to go look for, o.k.?

i don't want to take your heart, and i don't want a piece of history
no, i don't want to read your thoughts anymore, my god
plus,
"slow hands" (britt daniel remix)! weird and mathy and dancey and bassliney!
...doubleplus, here are some other mp3s:
girls boys & marsupials - backfire! @ the disco (i only like this for the title, heh)
snow patrol vs. the police - every car you chase (mash-up by partyben)
i hated that 'chasing cars' song when it first came out, but the interesting texture of this song is really nice. it is absolutely seamless in transitions!
we are scientists - hoppipolla (sigur ros cover) this is acoustic and warm and beautiful! currently on repeat for my sleepy playlist. i love sigur ros! i love we are scientists, even if their icelandic is iffy!
astrid swan - when you were young (the killers cover) piano + iffy, icelandic-accented english! this is quiet and plaintive and lovely, though!
tom jones - i bet you look good on the dancefloor (arctic monkeys cover) AHAH. tom jones covered the arctic monkeys, you guys! what can i say. the trumpets are so bombastic!
seelenluft - horse with no name [dj hell remix] blippy America cover thingy! tasteless and fun :D this is complete eurotrash, and i still enjoy it.
the national - the clampdown (clash cover)the national - pretty in pink (from their
daytrotter session)
the national is one of
sonstoodstammer's favorite bands and she is my favorite everything, so. \:D/
clint michigan - umbrella (rihanna cover)apparently this is the new cool song to cover now! this is the girly and folky and acoustic version, which i do not like as much as scott simon's. check out my last post if you missed the deathcabforcutie-esque one i posted!
last but not least:
justin timberlake - lovestoned (JUSTICE remix)oh gosh i have immense love for JUSTICE, just for the ass-shakery pretentiousless yet massively-hypedness of their dance music. this remix has blips and bops and striiiiings! Q. how awesome is it that your remix is named THE JUSTICE REMIX? A. pretty damn awesome!
wow gosh golly gee, linking things is hard! i am tired. and i officially wasted 2 hours which i could have spent typing my resume. wish me luck on job-searchy things guys! i'm going in for a talk at a coffeeshop (barista-ing is something i've never done!) and also sending in an application for library internship. i've never been formally employed before, with like, vacation wages and regular hours and things, (freelancer since forever) so let's hope i get a job! hope and pray and wish on dandelions, etc.!
