Oh whoa, haven't seen you around... in a long while.
But there are SO MANY GOOD BOOKS, I could never possibly pick just one. I'm not sure what kind of genre or style you're looking for, however here are some recent good finds that from what very little I know of you, I think you might conceivably enjoy:
The Chrysalids (John Wyndham) --- Futuristic sci-fi stuff - don't know if you've read any Orwell, but it's kind of like that. Just not as story-like, Wyndham is more trying to predict what our evil human nature will turn to in the future. Thought provoking and scaryish.
Middlesex (Jeffrey Eugenides) --- Excellent stuff, very intricate and complicated, dealing with all sorts of psychological, historical, and scientific stuff but all the while remaining extremely readable. This book won the Pulitzer Prize for Literature in 2003, so that has to count for something.
The Time Traveller's Wife (Audrey Niffenegger) --- How cool is this book? It combines time-travel with character portraits with a love story. This is an
