Rain blurs lines, distorts atmospheric perspective, washes away. It’s also always been a time for meditative reflection, if only because it often prevents most other outdoor activities, like birding, or attempting to stay dry. Perhaps if you'd actually deigned to read what I wrote, Lee, you'd notice that there is no mention of actually giving up on Gai, but rather taking matters into our own hands. Shaping our own destinies, if you will.

We cannot always wait.

Ah, the chance to see how badly convoluted this system is compared to the one back home. I can get through the paperwork but getting actual permits might require a citizen of the country. I don't think my student visa will suffice.

I'll pitch this to my advisor too. If I can word it correctly, the work involved might replace a class next semester (which is about the amount of time I'll need to fight through the system anyway).

I can handle paperwork, so long as I'm properly directed. I dislike making anything a charity case, but if any work we're doing can be "sponsored" by an architectural design/restoration class (even as an elective), I don't see the harm. Your interest is duly noted.
