Hi Petra,

I think one of the popular genres of fanfics is the concept of the 'soul bond', though I'm not certain which fanfic was the first to use the plot device. I am fairly certain that the first was for Harry/Ginny though.

Earliest contenders for the first story (that I know of) to use that plot would be:
1) Reign O'er Me by CTS (12 April 2004)
2) Harry Potter and Fate's Debt by Intromit (11 Jul 2005)

Another popular Genre is that of the 'Redo' or retcon fic, where (usually) Harry travels back in time in some fashion to relive his life and make better choices.

The first story I can recall using this plot device is Harry Potter and the Nightmares of Future's Past by Viridian (or S'Tarkan depending on which site you find the story)

I wonder if it's also worth discussing the 'shipping wars'?

Regards,

Brian
