So black and decker has created an automatic wrench. ....

Seriously is that how fucked up humanity has become that someone needs to spend money on a fucking automatic wrench? Because, what, it's become too much to spin the little fucking adjuster wheel ourselves? jesus h roosevelt christ.

There have been automatic wrenches for years... various reasons why they might be useful... one is in cases where there isn't room to turn a traditional wrench.

Admittedly, some "automatic" tools are just laziness, while others are more trouble than they're worth. Some are both... But in some cases, they're quite handy.

no, it's a normal adjustable wrench, what makes it automatic is you press a button and the mouth opens or closes to accomodate the nut or bolt head with a motor instead of your just spinning that little wheel to adjust it yourself.

ever see NASCAR where they switch out the wheels in like 10 seconds? that's an automatic wrench. plenty of assembly-lines have had them. situations do exist when they're useful or necessary.

at home, well, speed is often less of an issue. but perhaps you have weak arms and want to tighten something more than you can with a wrench. or perhaps it's in one of those annoying little crannies where a high-leverage wrench won't fit.

that said, if every home had one i'd be rolling my eyes pretty hard

no, no, no it doesn't do the tightening for you, the automatic part is the adjusting part. You press a little button on top and it just moves the mouth of the wrench open or closed to accomodate the size of the lug or bolt head. You still have to provide the torque on that nut and blot/pipe/ whatever yourself.

(Also I loathe the automtic ones they use in mechanics shops, because they over-tighten the lugs. The last time I got new tyres I forgot to tell them I wanted them done by hand and when I got a flat in the middle of the night I was literally jumping up and down with all my weight on the tyreiron trying to loosen them so I could put the spare on.)
