*g* Aren't their expressions priceless? It's just due to the shape of their beaks and their color markings, but they always look SO. PISSED. OFF. XD

Proud and RELIEVED. And happy for the mother bird, who'll soon be able to eat solely for herself again. :D

I do love a story with a happy ending. It's wonderful what you've done for these birds, Socky. Prettty sure they wouldn't have made it without you.

*g* You should have seen me when I spotted the chicks on the power line! I gasped and then I cheered and then I ran and got the camera and started snapping pictures and at one point I almost fell on my ass. (Looking at the sky while backing up on a crumbling driveway is not the best of ideas.)

You and the widder have done a very good job of bringing up your children - congratulations to you both!!

Thank you! The Widder did most of the work. My cat Timmy helped, too -- right after the chicks hatched we had an unseasonal cold spell for a couple of nights, so I cut a big handful of hair off of him and covered the chicks with it. Widder Barnes later wove it into the nest lining.

He did his part to make up for the Father Barnes' demise, yeah?

He wasn't the culprit in that case; it was one of the outdoor kittehs. Timmy is very tolerant of wildlife (and he has hair to spare) -- here's some shots of him bonding with a possum:
