I haven't read those links yet but reading this post reminded me of Cassandra Clare and what I'd read about her during the heyday of Fandom Wank.
To this day, it boggles my mind how someone who was lambasted as being a plagiarist (she pulled quotes from Buffy the Vampire slayer and other media without crediting the source, if I remember right, in her HP fic)... but I guess what sells, sells.

I still write fanfics nowadays... just bits. And mostly for fic-exchanges but yeah... even if I don't think I'll be a great writer, I'm still at it...
She's actually one of the writers those links talk about. I had no idea who she was before I started looking into all this. I was never a part of HP fandom either. She did more than lift dialogue from shows, she plagiarized entire paragraphs from an author who had written a fantasy series in the 80's. Basically, anything in Clare's stories that might be entertaining or brilliant--most likely it was stolen. It's horrible but fascinating.

I could never back away completely from writing. I am having fun reading a bunch right now--and it's making me want to delve into my own stories again.
Apparently Camp Nano is going on right now, if you ever want to jump on that... I was vaguely interested in it but... I just recently finished a fic-exchange and it was crazy writing 9600 words in a week. :x

Samhain Publishing is calling for Gothic horror novellas due September 15th, so I am going to brainstorm/dig out some of my ideas and see what I can do for 25 to 30k words.

I don't know if you ever saw me on Gamble With Fate when me and a writing partner were posting original fiction, but I'm basically still doing that--just, sadly, without our site anymore. :D Anything that catches my fancy I write. I'm playing with Steampunk and Space Opera-ish stuff too.
I still fan fic once in a while. Mainly Dragon Age stuff just to pass the writing blocks.
