Taxes pay for the buildings, maintenance and personell... and there never is enough to go around, especially for the teacher's salaries.

In a perfect world the highest paid job in the world would be kindergarten and elementary school teachers. Instead we pay the big bucks to dropouts who become actors and sports celebrities. Go figure. No wonder you have to buy that math workbook yourself.

Don't get me started. Try $65 for a yearbook. Something Kota will likely never have, at this rate. Thankfully, he seems wholly uninterested- I asked him about it once and he looked at me like I was crazy. His jewelry class is $35 a semester, there was another $25 for his journalism class (newspaper), and sports are $150- guess what else he's probably never doing!- $10 for whichever stupid test it is for 10th grade, $20 "technology fee", and a bunch of others I can't even remember now. It's totally out of control.

I'm afraid the costs only go up with age. For example, the last two years in high school you will owe money for Prom, class ring, cap and gown, graduation fees, and more.

I don't know how my parents did it all with 4 kids.

save up all the bill receipts, and when they get older and don't want to mow the lawn tell them "well, there is this small debt I would allow you to repay if mowing the lawn is beyond your means.." : ]

I am trying to get them to do most of the chores now. We don't do allowance, I do give them 5 bucks a week for extras they want at school like hot lunch or lattes (that is the library fundraiser thing), That i don't want to pay for and they can use how they see fit or save it. I think they normally have more cash then i do.
