My post yesterday about the Beatles got me thinking about bands and musicians in general, and in particular, favorite bands and artists. That reminded me of a throwaway quote in a review I read last week. The quote was something along the lines of, "If you had to list your top 10 albums...." Personally, indecisive person that I am, I'm not ( Read more... )

I went for "the greatest" for the reasons in my comment yesterday. It goes beyond the music, though I'm a huge fan of the music, too.

Yeah, I definitely understand the arguments for "the greatest," but as I'm deluded eternally optimistic, I'm still sticking with "great."

I can't pick between John and George's work for a favorite song. Plus, I have many songs that are my favorites--it just depends on what mood I'm in.

My top ten albums (today) would be "Abbey Road" and "Rubber Soul" by the Beatles, "Dreamboat Annie" by Heart, "Dark Side of the Moon" by Pink Floyd, "A Rush of Blood to the Head" by Coldplay, "How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb" and "Joshua Tree" by U2, "A New Day at Midnight" by David Gray, "Automatic for the People" by REM, and "Violator" by Depeche Mode.

Dude--I have to delete one of those to include Radiohead. *sigh*

Stop making me choose! Can't we have fifteen? :)

You know, the top ten albums thing is so weird for me because I feel that they should be albums that I've liked for quite awhile, as opposed to, say, the past six months or year. The way I listen to music has definitely changed a lot over the past few years, which has a lot to do with this. I'm not sure I can think of ten albums that I've liked fairly consistently for a long period of time. Here's all I can come up with:

"Legends" - Bob Marley and the Wailers
"Flood" - They Might Be Giants
"Unplugged" - Nirvana
The RENT soundtrack

I can't even include Rufus on that list, as for him, I'm more enamored with certain songs (lots and lots of songs), as opposed to albums in full.
