Rashomon has a lot of interesting ideas but doesn't really execute them very well. That's right, I said Kurosawa doesn't know how to make his ideas work. Apparently the convention was to overact in Japan in those times.
Also apparently, the reason the Seven Samurai is so great is that he infused it with tricks from Westerns.
I would totally fund a remake of Rashomon.
I did an uncredited draft of Almodovar's Volver.
