ok so
vacation
started in las vegas
this is the hotel we stayed in, the luxor
this one we did not stay in but it's neat and it's the new york new york. it has a roller coaster that was a horrible ride but a great view
this is part of the paris hotel, it also has a pretty balloon thing and the bottom part on the right there is much bigger and the louvre
after that was a bunch of driving, basically hours and hours of this
and then we got to the grand canyon, which was excellent. pictures to follow, i'm not captioning them all seperately
an ever-elusive picture of me
the next three were at sunset over the grand canyon which was amazing
me and my sister
next after more driving
san diego!
this is the pacific ocean but it's a shitty picture for some reason
this was the cutest thing ever i just had to take a picture (it's written in seaweed)
and now the zoo!
monkeys for micheal!
crappy pictures of koalas!
and the best part, pandas!
there were two but the other hid before i could take a picture so this is the same one
and then los angeles/hollywood
walk of fame!
alex trebek
samuel l jackson
david carradine
the beatles
john lennon
grauman's chinese theater, this is r2-d2 and c3po from star wars because i'm a dork
this is where my camera filled up because i had the pictures on too high a quality but there wasn't much more that we did that i could have taken pictures of anyway
so yeah
we flew to las vegas and basically spent 3 days checking out hotels and stores that were in hotels. they were all really neat, but my favorites other than the one we stayed in were caesar's palace (which i have no pictures of for some reason), new york new york, and paris. we saw a neat titanic exhibit at the tropicana one day that my sister really wanted to do, but other than that just looked at hotels. the blue man group was playing in the luxor (where we stayed) but tickets were an assload and no one wanted to see them but me.
then we drove to the grand canyon which was simply breathtaking. there are not words to describe how amazing it was, the pictures don't nearly do it justice.
after that we drove like 8 hours from the grand canyon to san diego, california. that night we went down to a place called pacific beach and checked out the pacific, watched surfers and whatnot. the next day we went to the san diego zoo, which was neat, but not as phenominal as everyone makes it sound. they did have one of only a few panda exhibits in the country though, which was super cool.
that night we drove to los angeles and didn't really do anything. the next day though we went and checked out grauman's chinese theater where they do all the hand/foot prints in cement. that was cool but really really crowded so i couldn't get many pictures that weren't full of feet. then we walked the hollywood walk of fame which was really long and i hadn't heard of quite a few of the people on it (or i didn't really care about them). recent inductees to the walk of fame include sanda bullock, the olsen twins, and godzilla. yes, godzilla. that afternoon we drove around in the hills and stuff looking at the big houses (including jay leno's and lucielle ball's) and at one point met up with one of those bus tours and listened to their driver's thing for a bit. it was in a small lookout thing on one of the hills where it kind of overlooked los angeles and he pointed out a few houses including those of leonardo dicaprio, ice t, tom cruise, brad pitt (my sister was excited for this one), and we were like 10 feet from david hasselhoff's, which was surprisingly not mobbed by germans.
after that we started a new paragraph because that one seems long and run-on-y, and because the next day we went to universal studios hollywood. the highlight as far as i'm concerned was the backlot tour, where they had things like the bates motel and the psycho house, whoville from the grinch who stole christmas (the jim carrey version), a big set of destruction from war of the worlds, and wisteria lane from desperate housewives, as well as all the street facades and things like that. they took the king kong, jaws, and earthquake rides from universal studios florida and incorporated those all into the backlot tour as well, just in a smaller way.
the last day we went to burbank and went on a tour of the nbc studios, which was mostly look at all this days of our lives crap. however, we also saw the set of the tonight show with jay leno, jay leno's motorcycle, and in a surprise appearance, jay leno. we were standing outside a closed door talking about how they rehearse and film the little skits for the tonight show inside when all of a sudden the door opened, jay walked out, and talked to our group of 12 or so for a few minutes.
after nbc we went over to the sony studios to see a taping of jeopardy. they film 5 episodes a day and we saw them do two of them. it was actually their first day back to taping for the new season, and because i'm sure not many of you care i'll spoil it and say that one week in the champion at the end of last season, david madden, is still champ with 18 episodes and 400,000+. during the breaks alex trebek and johnny gilbert (the announcer) talked to the crowd and answered questions and such which was neat, they're both really cool guys and very friendly.
the last day we drove back to las vegas and just screwed around seeing a couple free things while waiting for our flight back. we got in around 6 this morning detroit time and i'm really tired.
that's about all.
