My very first fanart... or, well, the first one my conscience would allow me to inflict on the public. V. messy pencil sketch; any advice or critique is much appreciated!

It's awesome! I think the braids could be lengthened a little, but I know you were just focusing on one area, so take that with a grain of salt. Other than that, as I said, it's awesome.

Hehe, thank you! I know the braids look like crap... I even used a reference for those and still, that was the best I could manage. Hair is tricky.

Let me say, first of all, I'm impressed. It's a good sketch, the proportions are solid, and he's recognizable as Thrall ( ... )

Thanks! You're 100% right about the brows - I was working from the current custom model, but still didn't feel I got them to look thick enough. A lot of the issue is with the shading underneath, on the model his eyes are surrounded by shadows so deep they're nearly black, and I just couldn't get that right in pencil.

I think the hood may actually be leather? It's hard to tell on these models whether they made it so thick because it *is*, or just in order for it to show up at all...

You're right about orcs, BTW. Granted, The Shattering says that Eitrigg is "in his fifties" but given that his sons would be almost that old if they'd lived, I'd place him at late 60s at the youngest, with Saurfang perhaps a little younger. And let's not forget that Doomhammer and Grom both kicked considerable amounts of ass well into middle age.

Well, since it's a shaman wearing it, it's technically mail ... or something. (I dunno, I just want those prayer beads.) It very well could be leather, but it looks more like a sort of wool to me, especially since the color seems to suggest something unbleached and undyed. (Talbuk wool, maybe? I wonder if clefthooves can be shorn...)

(Who knows, though... I mean, shaman Tier 13 is mail armor type, but it looks like leather and bone to me.)

Hmm. Talbuk resemble antelope, and antelopes have really short smooth coats, which means getting enough fuzz to get a draft for spinning would be a ginormous PITA.

Perhaps clefthoof - you don't have to shear the clefthoof, just go through the piles of fur it might leave behind when shedding and pick out the guard hairs.

That's how Inuiti crafters and knitters obtain qiviut - muskox or oomingmak fiber - for spinning and felting.

Maybe a combination of clefthoof wool and sueded talbuk leather? Oh my god, why am I talking about this? The people who designed his model probably know nothing about fiber arts and clothing.
