what's worse?
never experiencing the greatest passion of your life
or invariably destroying yourself trying to recapture it?

i can't answer that question.

For who? The observer or the participant?

A casual observer could take pleasure or pain in either and the definitions of "better" and "worse" would also change.

From my personal observer and participant point of view, invariably destroying yourself trying to recapture is a greater tragedy. As facts change, opinions change. The greatest thing in life at one point can change later on.

but seriously...for a poet? it may be a dilemma, but the path has already been marked.

and you already know to never, ever, settle for a mediocre life.
